PERT Meeting (SPECIAL DATE): Adverse Childhood Experiences and Toxic Stress
September 26, 2023 @ 8:30 am - 10:00 am
Do you really understand Adverse Childhood Experiences and Toxic Stress?
Do you understand the BENEFITS of a TRAUMA-RESPONSIVE approach to interactions with staff and clients or are you wasting time and effort?
Are you handling behavior, learning and health challenges of your clients and staff effectively? Or are you focusing on the symptoms and not the cause?
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are potentially traumatic events that occur when we are young. ACEs and the associated toxic stress they create are the root causes of some of the most common, serious, and costly health and social challenges facing our state. Learning difficulties, juvenile offending, behavioral problems, substance abuse, suicide, and risky sexual behavior and more.
ACEs and toxic stress are also associated with increased risk of a wide range of health conditions in both pediatric and adult populations. The life expectancy among populations with six or more ACEs is 19 years shorter than that of populations with none.
Young & Healthy has been training educators, law enforcement, community leaders and more about the health impacts of trauma for years. This special presentation for PERT’s non-profit leaders will introduce the science behind ACEs and how early exposure to intense stress, also called toxic stress, literally physically shapes our brains, our behavior, and impacts our long-term health.
Special emphasis will be placed on how toxic stress plays out in interpersonal behavior, how it affects lifelong learning, and self-regulation.
Participants will discuss how they can become a champion for their community’s health and well-being by creating supportive and compassionate environments in their offices, in our schools and on the streets.
We thank Young and Healthy for creating this training for us. Training will be held at their offices.
